MUMBAI, October 15 — The Central Recruitment and Promotion Department of the State Bank of India (SBI), the nation's largest commercial lender, on Wednesday issued the official employment notification for the recruitment of 1,500 Probationary Officers (POs) for FY 2026-27 on its portal sbi.co.in/careers.
Eligible graduates across disciplines are invited to apply online between October 15 and November 6, 2026. The rigorous selection matrix comprises a 100-mark preliminary objective test in November, followed by an advanced multi-tier main online examination (200 marks objective + 50 marks descriptive) in December, culminating in psychometric profiling and group exercises with personal interviews in January 2027.
SBI clarified that appointed Probationary Officers will enter on a revised basic pay scale of ₹41,960 with four advance increments, alongside industry-leading allowances, medical benefits, and fast-track executive leadership progression pathways across retail, SME, and international treasury desks.
The historical evolution of the State Bank of India (originating from the Bank of Calcutta in 1806, restructured as the Imperial Bank in 1921, and nationalized under the SBI Act 1955), commercial banking regulation under the RBI Act 1934 and Banking Regulation Act 1949, and Basel-III prudential norms form foundational knowledge for SBI PO, IBPS, and financial sector examinations.
