NEW DELHI, October 15 — The Railway Recruitment Control Board (RRCB), operating under the Ministry of Railways, on Wednesday published an exhaustive technical notification detailing a revised and robust percentile-based score normalization protocol for all multi-shift Computer Based Tests (CBTs).
According to the circular, the new methodology transitions mathematical adjustments toward a session-specific relative percentile scale, calibrating raw scores against the performance of the top 0.1 percent candidates in each shift and the standard deviation of raw scores across the entire testing population. This prevents artificial score distortion caused by inter-shift variations in question paper difficulty.
Railway officials emphasized that this standardized statistical formula ensures level-playing field transparency for tens of millions of aspirants appearing in massive national hiring drives, including upcoming stages of RRB NTPC, Group D, and ALP examinations.
The institutional framework of the Railway Recruitment Control Board, the jurisdictional roles of the 21 zonal Railway Recruitment Boards, the mathematical mechanics of standardized testing (mean, standard deviation, and relative percentile normalization), and civil service recruitment reforms constitute key general knowledge topics for central competitive examinations.
