Delhi Government launches 'Delhi Lakshmi Yojana' providing ₹2,500 monthly transfer to women

NEW DELHI, August 1 — The Delhi State Government launched the 'Delhi Lakshmi Yojana' on Saturday, a major social welfare initiative providing direct monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 to eligible women residents across the National Capital Territory.

Under the scheme, women aged between 21 and 60 years belonging to households with an annual family income under ₹2.5 lakh will receive direct benefit transfers (DBT) into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The government has set up special registration counters across municipal wards and online portals to facilitate application submissions.

The initiative aims to improve financial independence, nutritional security and healthcare access for women in low-income families. State officials stated that initial disbursements will begin following verification of beneficiary applications over the next four weeks.

State-specific welfare schemes and social security direct transfers form a regular feature in state PSC exams and SSC general awareness sections, making the ₹2,500 monthly payout and eligibility criteria an important current affairs item.
