VISAKHAPATNAM, August 2 — The Indian Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force launched the bilateral maritime exercise JIMEX 2026 in the Bay of Bengal on Sunday, focusing on coordination and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
This edition of the exercise includes search and rescue operations, anti-submarine warfare simulations, and live-fire weapon drills. Guided-missile destroyers, stealth frigates, and maritime patrol aircraft from both nations are participating in the harbor and sea phases.
Commanders from both navies stated that the joint drills aim to improve teamwork and ensure safe sea communication channels in the region. The harbor phase will feature professional exchanges, sports fixtures, and coordination planning meetings, followed by advanced tactical maneuvers at sea.
Bilateral exercises form a regular part of the General Awareness syllabus in competitive exams. Candidates should note that JIMEX is a naval exercise between India and Japan, and the 2026 edition is hosted by Visakhapatnam in the Bay of Bengal.
