If you are from Madhya Pradesh and you want a bank job without fighting the whole country for it, the Cooperative Bank clerk post is one of the better bets you have. The competition is state-level, the paper is easier than IBPS, and the posting stays inside your own district. That last part matters more than students think.
The 2026 cycle is already deep in progress. The written exam for Computer Operator and Society Manager was held on 8 July 2026, and results are awaited. If you missed this one, read this properly so you are ready the day the next advertisement lands.
Latest notification and important dates
The recruitment is run by the MP State Cooperative Bank (Apex Bank), Bhopal, for itself and for the 38 District Central Cooperative Banks across the state. What students call the "clerk" post is officially named Computer Operator.

There is no fresh 2026-27 advertisement out as of 30 July 2026. Anything you see claiming a "new vacancy" right now is recycled content. Keep an eye on our exam news page and the official site.
What the job actually is
You sit at a branch of a District Central Cooperative Bank. Most of these branches are in tehsil towns and big villages, not in Indore or Bhopal malls. Your day is account opening, KYC entry, passbook printing, cash counter work when short-staffed, crop loan (KCC) paperwork during kharif and rabi season, and a lot of data entry in the core banking software.
The cooperative banking network in MP is built around farmers. During sowing and harvest months the branch gets busy in a way a normal bank does not. Loan camps, PACS society coordination, fertiliser credit entries. It is real work, but it is not the sales culture of private banks. Nobody chases you for insurance targets.
Transfers usually stay within the same district bank. For many candidates that is the biggest attraction: a permanent job near home.

The January 2026 advertisement started with 1,763 posts and was later revised to 2,076 posts across all categories.

You apply bank-wise. Each district bank has its own vacancy count, and the merit list is prepared separately for each. This is important. A 62 might clear in one district and fail in another. Pick the district where you can genuinely settle.
Eligibility
Education. Bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognised university, plus a one-year computer diploma (UGC-recognised university, DOEACC/NIELIT, government polytechnic, or ITI COPA). Hindi and English typing knowledge is expected. A BCA or B.Sc (CS) degree usually satisfies the computer requirement on its own, but always read the fine print in the advertisement.

Domicile. Open to all, but reservation and age relaxation apply only to Madhya Pradesh domicile candidates. An outsider can appear, though realistically the merit and the local language demand make it a hard road.
Physical standards. None. No running, no height check.

- Go to apexbankmp.bank.in and open the recruitment link.
- Register with a working mobile number and email. Use one you will keep for two years.
- Fill personal details, education, and pick your district bank preference carefully.
- Upload photo and signature in the given size and format.
- Pay online. Save the receipt PDF.
- Download the final application form and keep a printout.
Fill the form yourself instead of handing it to a cyber cafe. Errors in category, district choice or date of birth are painful to fix later.

Duration is 120 minutes. Negative marking is 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Note the weightage trick: Computer Knowledge has 40 questions worth only 20 marks (half a mark each), while Reasoning and Quant carry 1.25 marks per question. So a computer question and a reasoning question are not worth the same time. Many students waste ten minutes on computer trivia and lose a whole set in Quant.
Final selection is on merit of this test, then document verification. That is it.
Detailed syllabus
Reasoning Ability. Puzzles and seating arrangement (linear, circular, floor-based), syllogism, inequality, blood relations, direction sense, coding-decoding, order and ranking, alphanumeric series, input-output, data sufficiency, statement and assumption. Puzzles alone can be 15 to 20 questions.
Quantitative Aptitude. Simplification, number series, quadratic equations, data interpretation (table, bar, line, pie), percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, interest, time and work, time speed distance, boats and streams, partnership, mixture and alligation, mensuration, permutation and combination, probability. English Language. Reading comprehension, cloze test, para jumbles, error spotting, sentence improvement, fill in the blanks, one word substitution, synonyms and antonyms, active-passive, direct-indirect. The level here is easier than IBPS. Basic grammar plus regular reading is enough.
General Awareness. Banking awareness (RBI functions, NABARD, types of accounts, NEFT/RTGS/UPI, priority sector lending, KCC, cooperative bank structure, PACS), current affairs of the last six months, static GK, and a solid chunk on Madhya Pradesh: districts, rivers, national parks, tribes, folk dances, festivals, schemes, sports awards and recent state news. Computer Knowledge. Computer generations, hardware and software, input-output devices, memory types, operating systems, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint shortcuts), internet and email, networking basics, database basics, security and viruses, abbreviations, keyboard shortcuts.
Salary and career growth
The Computer Operator post sits in the Rs 19,500 to Rs 62,000 pay band (Level 4 in the cooperative bank scale). Basic starts near Rs 19,500, plus DA as per state rates, HRA depending on the town, and medical and transport allowance.
In-hand for a fresher works out to roughly Rs 28,000 to Rs 33,000 a month, higher in bigger cities because of HRA. Add gratuity, PF and leave benefits. It is not IBPS PO money, but for a district town it is a comfortable salary.
Growth comes through internal promotion and departmental exams: Computer Operator to Senior Assistant, then Branch Manager (Middle Management Grade-1). Officers who perform well move to head office departments in the district bank. Promotion pace depends on your district bank's staffing, and honestly it can be slow in smaller banks.

Official cut-offs are not always published in a clean format. The figures below are the commonly reported ranges out of 200 marks for the clerk-level post.

Treat these as a rough map, not gospel. District-wise merit varies a lot. In districts with few posts and many applicants, the real cut-off can run well above these numbers.
Books and preparation strategy
Keep the book list short. Reasoning by R S Aggarwal or the Arihant reasoning book, Quant by R S Aggarwal or Rakesh Yadav, Objective General English by S P Bakshi, Lucent for static GK, plus a Madhya Pradesh GK book in Hindi. A workable three-month plan:
Month 1. Finish the arithmetic chapters and basic reasoning topics. Two hours daily on Quant, one on Reasoning. Start MP GK with 20 facts a day. Do topic-wise practice sets after every chapter instead of waiting till the end.
Month 2. Move to DI and puzzles, which together decide your score. Add English grammar and one comprehension passage daily. Begin one full mock a week from the free mock test series. Analyse every mock for an hour. The analysis is where the marks come from, not the attempt.

Common mistakes and honest advice
Students pick the district bank based on vacancy count alone and then get a posting they cannot handle for the next twenty years. Think about where you actually want to live.
Second mistake: ignoring MP-specific GK because it feels boring. Forty General Awareness questions and a big share of them are state-based. That is free marks you are handing away.
Third: over-attempting. With 0.25 negative marking, blind guessing on 30 questions costs you around 7 marks. Attempt what you know, then attempt what you can eliminate down to two options, then stop.
And be honest about the competition. Around 750 clerk posts against lakhs of graduates in MP means the ratio is brutal on paper. But the paper itself is moderate. Consistency beats intelligence here. Also keep a backup running, because SSC CHSL and RRB NTPC share most of this syllabus. One preparation, several chances.

Is MP Cooperative Bank Clerk the same as Computer Operator? Yes. Students say clerk, the advertisement says Computer Operator. Same post.
Is there an interview? No. Selection for Computer Operator is purely on written exam merit, followed by document verification.
Do I need a computer diploma if I already have a BCA? Usually a BCA or B.Sc (CS) counts. Check the exact clause in the notification before applying.
Is there negative marking? Yes, 0.25 marks per wrong answer.
Can candidates from outside MP apply? Yes, but you get no reservation or age relaxation, and merit is district-wise. It is a tough route.
Which language is the paper in? Bilingual, Hindi and English, except the English Language section.
