If you want a clerical job in Madhya Pradesh that carries real weight, the MP High Court Assistant Grade 3 post is one of the best on the list. It's a court job. The work is steady, the environment is disciplined, and people in your town will know what it means when you say you work at the High Court.
But here's the honest part. This recruitment does not come every year. The last big cycle had over 1,200 posts across Assistant and Stenographer streams, and since then MPHC has mostly released smaller technical notifications. So your job right now is to be ready before the advertisement drops, not after.

As of July 2026, there is no fresh MP High Court Assistant Grade 3 advertisement live. What the job actually is
Assistant Grade 3 is the clerk-level post inside the judicial establishment. You'll be posted either at the Principal Seat in Jabalpur, the benches at Indore and Gwalior, or in District and Sessions Courts across Madhya Pradesh.
Day to day, the work is paperwork with consequences. You handle case files, enter case details in the court software, prepare cause lists, issue notices and summons, maintain registers, and put files in front of the reader or the judge. A misfiled paper in a court is not a small thing, so accuracy matters more than speed.
The hours are court hours. No field duty, no night shift, and holidays follow the court calendar, which is generous compared to most government offices. If you want a desk job with dignity and predictable timings, this is a good target.

- A computer qualification. CPCT score card, or a diploma / certificate in computer application from a recognised institute, is accepted. For the English Knowing post, strong English typing and drafting ability is expected.
- Hindi typing ability, since the main skill test is Hindi typing for most posts.

Age is counted from the cut-off date in the advertisement, usually 1 January of the recruitment year. Relaxations above 40 apply only to MP domicile candidates.
Domicile
Candidates from outside MP can apply, but they are treated as unreserved and get no age or fee relaxation. So practically, MP domicile candidates have a real edge.
There are no physical standards and no medical fitness test beyond a basic medical examination at the end.

- Register with your name, mobile and email exactly as on your marksheets.
- Fill personal details, education, category, employment exchange number and post preference.
- Upload a recent photo and signature in the given format.
- Pay the fee by net banking, card, UPI or at an MP Online kiosk.
- Save the PDF and keep two printouts for document verification.
Pick your exam city carefully. Once the form is submitted, the centre preference cannot be changed.

Duration is 2 hours. Minimum qualifying marks are 45% for General and OBC, 40% for SC and ST. Clearing the minimum does not mean selection. Only a shortlisted ratio of candidates goes to the next stage, so aim well above 45.

Around 50% in the skill test is treated as the qualifying bar. This stage is where most graduates fall, because they prepare theory and ignore the keyboard.

General Knowledge and Madhya Pradesh awareness (30 marks)
This is the biggest block, so treat it as your scoring engine. MP-specific topics dominate: history of MP, major dynasties and forts, state geography including rivers, national parks, minerals and crops, tribes and folk arts, districts and divisions, state schemes, budget highlights and important institutions. Add national and international current affairs of the last 10 to 12 months, Indian polity, Constitution basics, everyday science, awards, books and authors, and sports. Mathematics and Reasoning (20 marks)
Maths stays at Class 10 level. Number system, simplification, percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, interest, time and work, time speed distance, mensuration, basic algebra and simple data interpretation.

General Hindi (10 marks)
Only 10 questions but very easy marks. Sandhi, samas, upsarg and pratyay, paryayvachi and vilom shabd, muhavare and lokoktiyan, vakya shuddhi, ling and vachan, tatsam-tadbhav, ras, alankar and chhand basics.
English (20 marks)
Tenses, articles, prepositions, subject-verb agreement, active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech, error spotting, sentence improvement, synonyms and antonyms, one word substitution, idioms and phrases, cloze test and a short comprehension passage. Since 20 marks come from English, weak candidates lose the exam right here. Fix grammar rules first, vocabulary second.
Computer Knowledge (20 marks)
Computer fundamentals, input and output devices, memory types, operating systems, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint features, shortcut keys, internet and email, file extensions, network basics, cyber security basics and common abbreviations. If you've prepared for CPCT, this section is nearly free marks.
Rehearse the whole paper with full-length free mock tests and fix weak chapters using topic-wise practice sets.

Assistant Grade 3 sits in pay band Rs 5,200 – 20,200 with grade pay Rs 1,900, which maps to Level 4 style pay under the 7th Pay Commission in MP.

Growth is slow but certain. The usual path is Assistant Grade 3, then Grade 2, then Grade 1 or Head Clerk, and further to Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. Departmental exams and seniority both count. Add NPS, medical benefits and the court holiday calendar, and the package is better than the basic pay makes it look.
Previous year cut-off
MPHC does not publish detailed category-wise cut-offs the way SSC does. What is officially fixed is the qualifying bar, and the working shortlist range candidates have reported.

Books and preparation strategy
Keep the book list short. Lucent General Knowledge, a dedicated MP GK book by Nirman or Arihant, Fast Track by Rajesh Verma for maths, a Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning book, Lucent Samanya Hindi, and any standard computer awareness book for CPCT. Most of what you need is already free in the Pareeksha Reading Room.
Month 1. Finish MP static GK end to end with maths basics. One hour of computer awareness daily. Start Hindi typing for 30 minutes from day one.
Month 2. Reasoning syllabus, English grammar rules, science and polity. Push typing to 45 minutes daily and start measuring speed.
Month 3. Revision plus two full mocks a week. Analyse every mock and keep a mistake notebook.
Month 4 onwards. Only revision, current affairs and typing. If you're also preparing for SSC CHSL or RRB NTPC, the overlap in maths, reasoning and English is large, so nothing is wasted. A structured study plan helps if you keep drifting.
Common mistakes and honest advice
The biggest mistake is ignoring typing. Candidates clear prelims, then discover they type 12 words a minute in Hindi and lose the whole year. Hindi typing with Kruti Dev or Mangal takes three to four months to reach a comfortable 30 words per minute. Start today, not after the notification.
Second, skipping the Employment Exchange registration and then rushing on the last day of the form. Third, preparing only national GK and ignoring MP questions, which is where 30 marks live. Fourth, treating English as optional when it carries 20 marks.
Be realistic about competition too. When 900-odd posts open in a state where lakhs of graduates are waiting, the ratio is brutal. But the paper itself is not hard. It's a Class 10 level test won by people who revise and type well.
