AP Agriculture, Irrigation and Crops · Chapter 22
21 | Banana, citrus and fruit diversity

AP's food-processing policy describes banana, sweet orange, pomegranate and papaya among important horticultural fruits. Annamayya district lists banana, lemon and sweet orange in its crop description. Ananthapuramu's district survey report identifies sweet orange and banana among its horticultural crops for its study period. These sources support a diversified southern fruit belt, not a permanent district rank.

Fruit crops differ in plant life cycle, irrigation needs, storage life and market handling. A citrus orchard and a banana plantation should not be collapsed into a generic “fruit farm” when a question specifies crop. A cold chain or grading facility is part of post-harvest activity, not proof of a yield increase. For SI/Constable recall, group mango and banana as fruits, lemon/sweet orange as citrus, and chilli/turmeric as spices; this prevents category-swapping distractors.

Worked example: Banana and citrus require different water, soil and post-harvest handling. A broad 'fruit crops' category can hide these differences. An MCQ on crop class can group them as horticulture, while a current production comparison needs separate crop and year. A cold store's address is not enough to locate every supplying farm.

Active recall: Name two citrus examples and two non-citrus fruits cited by official AP sources.
