VISAKHAPATNAM, October 11 — The Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB) on Saturday published an infrastructure milestone audit confirming that Phase-1 breakwater protection and multi-purpose berth construction at the Ramayapatnam Greenfield Port in Prakasam district have been completed, initiating trial cargo vessel berthing operations.
The maritime authority further reported that capital dredging and marine piling at Machilipatnam Port (Krishna district) have crossed 70 percent physical progress, while foundation works at Mulapeta Port (formerly Bhavanapadu, Srikakulam district) remain on track for commercial commissioning. Concurrently, civil aviation engineers confirmed that the runway and terminal concrete superstructures at Bhogapuram International Airport in Vizianagaram district are nearing completion to anchor international passenger and air cargo traffic for the North Coastal region.
APMB officials reiterated that Andhra Pradesh's 974-kilometre coastline—the second-longest mainland littoral in India following Gujarat—is being transformed into an integrated blue economy network connected via the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) and national highway hinterland spurs.
Maritime governance, the Major Port Authorities Act 2020 versus the Indian Ports Act 1908 governing non-major state ports, the Sagarmala National Programme, coastal economic zones (CEZs), and transport geography of Andhra Pradesh are essential topics across APPSC Group-I, Group-II, and AP Police SI examinations.
