AMARAVATI, October 13 — The Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet on Monday formally approved the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy (ICEP 2026), unveiling an ambitious decarbonization roadmap designed to scale statewide non-fossil generation capacity to 78.5 gigawatts (GW) and catalyze ₹10 lakh crore in green infrastructure investments over the next five years.
The flagship policy introduces bespoke capital subsidies, power evacuation exemptions, and single-window land allocation mechanisms across five targeted clean technology verticals: 40 GW of solar installations, 20 GW of utility-scale wind plants, 12 GW of pumped storage hydro projects (PSPs), and commercial manufacturing clusters for green hydrogen, green ammonia, and electrolyzers. The Cabinet reaffirmed priority support for the NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) mega green hydrogen hub at Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam, envisioned as India's premier maritime export facility for sustainable fuels.
Senior energy officials emphasized that Rayalaseema districts—predominantly Kurnool, Ananthapuramu, and YSR Kadapa—possess some of India's highest solar-wind co-located irradiation and topographical gradients, positioning the state as a critical renewable dispatch hub for the National Power Grid.
Renewable energy policies, India's COP26 Panchamrit commitments (500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070), the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM 2023), pumped storage hydroelectric designs, and regional electricity regulatory mandates (APERC) are core topics across APPSC Group-I (GS-IV: Science, Tech & Environment), Group-II, and engineering services syllabi.
