Barytes, also called barite, is barium sulphate. The Indian Bureau of Mines identifies Andhra Pradesh as having a dominant share of India's barytes resources in its 2024 state review. A major AP exam association is the Mangampeta deposit. The mineral's density makes it useful as a weighting material in oil and gas drilling fluids; uses in paint and other manufacturing also appear in district descriptions. It is not an iron ore or a gemstone.
Be careful with superlatives. “Largest deposit” can depend on whether the comparison is a bedded deposit, a single deposit or current reserves. The Annamayya district survey describes Mangampeta as one of the world's largest barite deposits and specifies its geological setting. An MCQ can safely pair Mangampeta with barytes; a numerical global rank needs a precise source and category. Mineral processing and export do not prove extraction volume for a particular year.
Worked example: Barytes is a strong AP mineral association, especially Mangampeta. An exam may ask for the mineral, its place or an industrial use. A miner's shipment tonnage, geological resource and processed powder output differ. Do not infer the entire state's annual production from one site photograph. Pair barytes with the documented district and current map, then add source vintage.
Active recall: Name the mineral, chemical identity and a common industrial use associated with Mangampeta.
