AP Sports, Awards and Firsts · Chapter 41
40 | Andhra State and successor-state firsts

The word “first” also depends on constitutional geography. Tanguturi Prakasam was the first Chief Minister of Andhra State formed in 1953. Andhra Pradesh formed in 1956 through further reorganisation; the post-2014 successor AP is another administrative context. A sports book need not retell the full political history, but it must not let an undated “first AP” question smuggle one state into another.

This caution mirrors athlete origin. “Undivided Andhra Pradesh” included Hyderabad; present Andhra Pradesh does not. An older sports biography may say Andhra Pradesh for a Hyderabad-born athlete because that was the state name at the time. It is historically intelligible, yet a current AP district map must mark Hyderabad outside today's border. Write a date beside a state title or regional birthplace claim, just as you write an edition year beside a medal.

Worked example: The first chief minister of Andhra State and the first chief minister of Andhra Pradesh refer to different formations, 1953 and 1956. The distinction parallels sports firsts: category words matter. A person associated with an older undivided administrative geography may not fit a present 28-district map label. Date the institution before answering.

Active recall: Give the years for Andhra State, Andhra Pradesh formation and bifurcation. Why do they matter in a sports-origin claim?
