Rayalaseema is a region that most Andhra Pradesh aspirants can place on a map but few can place in the recruitment system. The system does not recognise Rayalaseema as a unit. It recognises eight districts, two zones (Zone V and Zone VI) and one multi-zone (Multi-Zone II), and it asks each candidate where he or she studied between Class I and Class VII. A candidate from Madanapalle and a candidate from Hindupur live in the same region, but they are local to different zones.

This guide is for aspirants from Kurnool, Nandyal, Ananthapuramu, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor and Tirupati districts, as they stand in October 2026 after the 2022 reorganisation and the December 2025 changes. It explains who recruits here, how local status and the 95:5 rule work for a candidate from these districts, where district-level notices are published, which cities hosted recent examinations, which public institutions are in the region and how to prepare. Time-sensitive statements are labelled "As on October 2026" with their source, and the last section lists what could not be verified.

As on October 2026: APPSC detailed notifications of 6 October 2026 (Group-I, Horticulture Officer, Assistant Environmental Engineer) are open for online applications from 6 to 27 October 2026; APSLPRB notifications of 16 September 2026 have no announced application window on the Board's page; the district portals of Kurnool, Nandyal, Kadapa and Chittoor showed health-sector notices with closing dates between 8 and 31 October 2026; and no DSC 2026 notification was visible on cse.ap.gov.in. Sources: psc.ap.gov.in, slprb.ap.gov.in, district portals on ap.gov.in, cse.ap.gov.in.

The eight districts and their zones

Rayalaseema is a traditional name for the south-western interior of the State. For recruitment, the useful facts are in the table, which gives the headquarters and the zone placement printed in the Commission's and the Board's notifications of September and October 2026.

District Headquarters Zone Multi-zone Note
Kurnool Kurnool Zone VI Multi-Zone II Portal shows 27 mandals
Nandyal Nandyal Zone VI Multi-Zone II Portal shows 29 mandals
Ananthapuramu Ananthapuramu Zone VI Multi-Zone II Spelled Anantapur in older sources
Sri Sathya Sai Puttaparthi Zone VI Multi-Zone II Formed 4 April 2022 from Anantapur
Tirupati Tirupati Zone V Multi-Zone II Includes Tirumala and Sriharikota
Chittoor Chittoor Zone V Multi-Zone II Border district
Annamayya Madanapalle Zone V Multi-Zone II Headquarters moved from Rayachoti
YSR Kadapa Kadapa Zone V Multi-Zone II Older books say Cuddapah

Rayalaseema is therefore split between two zones. Zone V is Tirupati, Chittoor, Annamayya and YSR Kadapa. Zone VI is Nandyal, Ananthapuramu, Kurnool and Sri Sathya Sai. Both zones belong to Multi-Zone II, which also contains Zone IV (Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla, Prakasam and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore). This mapping is printed in full in the APPSC Group-I notification of 6 October 2026 and in the SLPRB Sub Inspector notification of 16 September 2026, both opened for this guide. It matches the text of G.O.Ms.No.54 of the General Administration (SPF and MC) Department dated 14 May 2026, as hosted on a teachers' information website. The order was not found on a government domain.

A few district facts matter for exams. The Sri Sathya Sai portal gives 32 mandals, five revenue divisions and an area of 7,771 square kilometres, with Puttaparthi as headquarters. The Annamayya portal gives 25 mandals and three revenue divisions. For the full set of districts and the places that moved between them, see the AP district-wise fact sheet.

What changed in the December 2025 reorganisation

The Government formed Markapuram and Polavaram districts from 31 December 2025, taking the State to 28 districts, and neither is in Rayalaseema. The same round, as reported in the press, moved the Annamayya headquarters from Rayachoti to Madanapalle, shifted Rajampet into YSR Kadapa and Railway Koduru into Tirupati, created new revenue divisions including Pileru, Madakasira and Banaganapalle, and divided the Adoni mandal of Kurnool district. Those details are press-reported, and the Gazette is the authority.

Here is why it matters for jobs. The two moves between districts are both inside Zone V: Rajampet goes from Annamayya to YSR Kadapa, and Railway Koduru goes from Annamayya to Tirupati. A candidate whose school years were in those places keeps the same zone and multi-zone. What can change is district-cadre status, because a district-cadre post is local to a district. If your certificates show a school in a mandal that has changed district, read the notification's definition of the area carefully and keep the certificates in the form it prescribes. The new divisions do not affect local status, which is decided by district, zone and multi-zone.

A second point is historical. Anantapur is spelled Ananthapuramu in current official usage. Sri Sathya Sai district was formed from the older Anantapur district, so any older document showing Anantapur for a school in Puttaparthi, Hindupur or Kadiri is correct for its date and now falls in the new district. Likewise Nandyal was part of the older Kurnool district, and Tirupati and Annamayya were formed in 2022 from parts of older districts.

APPSC in the Rayalaseema zones

As on October 2026 the Commission has three detailed notifications open with applications from 6 to 27 October 2026: Group-I Services (07/2026), Assistant Environmental Engineer (08/2026, 41 vacancies including one carried forward) and Horticulture Officer (19/2026, 37 vacancies in a zonal cadre). The Commission's web note of 15 September 2026 also lists brief notifications with tentative windows from 9 October to 5 November 2026, including Assistant Statistical Officer, Forest Section Officer, Forest Beat Officer and Executive Officer Grade-III. Brief notifications are provisional, so wait for the detailed notification before acting.

The Horticulture notification is useful for a Rayalaseema candidate because it prints zone-wise vacancies. Computed from its annexure by adding the open and local rows, Zone V has 6 vacancies and Zone VI has 4 of the 37. Zone V is shared with Tirupati, Chittoor, Annamayya and YSR Kadapa candidates, and Zone VI with Nandyal, Ananthapuramu, Kurnool and Sri Sathya Sai candidates. The number alone does not tell you your chances, because roster points and categories split these figures further. It does tell you where the pool is concentrated.

Group-I carries 166 vacancies, according to the detailed notification of 6 October 2026. Candidates from Rayalaseema's eight districts, together with those of Zone IV, form Multi-Zone II. The Multi-Zone II counts are 6 for Deputy Collector, 5 for Assistant Commissioner of State Tax, 19 for DSP (Civil), 7 for District Educational Officer, 7 for Deputy Registrar, 8 for Municipal Commissioner Grade-II, 3 for District Employment Officer and 19 for Divisional Development Officer. The Assistant Audit Officer post is organised by zone, with 5 vacancies in Zone V and 4 in Zone VI.

Two features of this notification matter for the region. First, the screening test is on 24 January 2027 and can be taken at any of 26 district centres, including all eight of yours, with three preferences. Second, the Mains is held at four centres only: Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Ananthapuramu. A candidate from Zone V will usually choose Tirupati and one from Zone VI will usually choose Ananthapuramu. Our full reading is in the APPSC Group 1 2026 post.

A web note of 29 September 2026 asks applicants to update the One Time Profile Registration from 30 September 2026, since it now records district, zone and multi-zone from study or residence particulars. A web note of 5 October 2026 schedules the computer-based test for Assistant Professors in various universities, as notified by 19 State universities, and for Lecturers in the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, from 1 to 5 December 2026. See the OTPR update and the registration guide.

APSLPRB: how many posts each district has

The Board's notifications of 16 September 2026 give district-wise vacancies for constables and firemen and zone-wise vacancies for Sub Inspectors. As on October 2026 the Recruitments page lists the notifications with the application period blank. The table shows the direct-recruitment (DR) and limited recruitment (LR) vacancies in Rc.No.91/SLPRB/Rect.2/2026 for your districts. All figures are provisional.

District Civil constable DR AR constable DR Fireman DR Civil constable LR
Tirupati 42 28 5 5
Chittoor 20 14 8 9
Annamayya 20 14 0 8
YSR Kadapa 22 13 5 2
Nandyal 23 11 4 0
Ananthapuramu 18 7 2 3
Kurnool 22 10 2 1
Sri Sathya Sai 23 7 6 0
Eight districts together 190 104 32 28

Out of the State totals of 542 civil constable, 285 AR constable and 158 fireman DR vacancies, Rayalaseema's eight districts hold 190, 104 and 32. Tirupati has the largest figure in the region for both constable posts. The LR vacancies are backlog posts, and the notification says they are filled only with local candidates of the respective revenue district; Chittoor and Annamayya have the largest LR numbers in the region.

For Sub Inspectors, Rc.No.81/SLPRB/Rect.1/2026 gives 43 civil SI and 18 reserve SI vacancies for Zone V, and 42 civil SI and 19 reserve SI vacancies for Zone VI. Five Special Protection Force SI vacancies sit in Zone V. The details of age, physical tests and the exam pattern are in the police recruitment post.

School education and the district cadre

DSC means District Selection Committee. The last full recruitment, the Mega DSC 2025, was announced by Notification 01 dated 20 April 2025. Its district tables used the older 13-district structure. For Secondary Grade Teacher, School Assistant and Physical Education posts in government, Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad schools, the Kurnool row showed 2,547 posts, the highest in the State, followed by 1,312 in Chittoor, 661 in Ananthapuramu and 639 in YSR Kadapa. The Kurnool row covered what are now Kurnool and Nandyal districts, and the Ananthapuramu row covered what are now Ananthapuramu and Sri Sathya Sai. These are numbers for old units and not for present districts.

As on October 2026, no DSC 2026 notification was visible on cse.ap.gov.in or the TET to DSC portal. Press reports name a mid-October expectation, which is not an announcement. Two points from the 2025 rules are worth knowing: school teaching posts are district-cadre posts, and the 2025 notification said the computer-based test would run in district headquarters, municipalities, revenue divisions and mandals. For the structure see the DSC 2026 status post, the exam pattern post and the DSC syllabus post.

Because the 2025 tables sit on old units, a Kurnool or Chittoor candidate should not assume the same share of posts in 2026. The department will publish a new table. Ask the same question of any district-wise table: which districts does each row cover?

District-level recruitments and portals

Every district has an official portal on ap.gov.in with a Notices section and a Recruitment category. Teaching hospitals, district hospitals, medical colleges, women and child welfare units and other offices put contract and outsourced vacancies there, usually with a window of one to three weeks. Note that "DSC" on a hospital or mental health notice means the District Selection Committee of that department.

The recruitment pages showed the following on 7 October 2026.

District portal Recruitment page on 7 October 2026
Kurnool Combined recruitment for various posts in Kurnool Medical College and Government General Hospital, 5 to 15 October 2026; One Stop Centre Adoni notification, 5 to 12 October 2026
Nandyal The same Kurnool Medical College combined recruitment notice; speaking orders for paramedical and supporting staff in district hospitals of Nandyal, 30 September to 6 October 2026
YSR Kadapa Institute of Mental Health, Kadapa, contract posts through DSC, 30 September to 8 October 2026
Chittoor District Coordinator of Hospitals Services notices on paramedical and supporting staff, including an errata under Notification No.02/2026 dated 24 June 2026, window 1 September to 31 October 2026
Tirupati No notice matched
Annamayya No current notice; archive available
Ananthapuramu No current notice; archive available
Sri Sathya Sai No current notice; archive available

Three lessons come out of the table. First, district-level health recruitments are the most frequent source of local vacancies. The posts include technicians, therapists and operation theatre assistants, which suits candidates with ITI, diploma or paramedical qualifications; see the paramedical post, the lab technician post and the staff nurse post. Second, a notice for one district can appear on a neighbouring district's portal, as the Kurnool notice does on the Nandyal page, because the institution serves both. Third, windows are short and sometimes lie in the past by the time you read a summary. Check the dates printed on the portal.

A report on G.O.Ms.No.46 dated 6 July 2026 said the government directed departments to propose allocation of posts to districts and paused new posts, promotions and transfers until local cadre allocation ended. A recruitment notice on another district's portal, that of NTR, says its final merit list is to wait for the Presidential Order 2025 process or orders lifting the freeze. That pattern is likely to affect district-level health lists in Rayalaseema as well, so read each notice for such a clause.

Judiciary and the High Court question

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh sits at Nelapadu, Amaravati, according to its own website, and its recruitment page is the place for judicial and staff vacancies. As on October 2026 the page for 2026 lists an online application for 119 posts of Civil Judge (Junior Division) under Notification No.118/2026 dated 25 September 2026, posted on 1 October 2026, along with District Judge notifications dated 30 September 2026. A candidate from Rayalaseema applies in the same pool as one from any other district for State-level judicial posts. District court staff posts are recruited district by district; see the High Court assistant post.

A common misunderstanding in this region concerns a bench of the High Court at Kurnool. Press reports mention an Assembly resolution seeking a bench there, but no official page showed a bench in existence, so this guide does not treat one as existing. The Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2026 names Amaravati as the capital. Exam questions on capitals and courts should be answered from the Act and the court's own website.

Central, PSU and institutional employers in the region

Rayalaseema is home to some of the State's major central institutions, which hire through their own channels. The facts below were read on official pages. Each description is limited to what the page showed.

  • ISRO, Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota. The centre's website shows launches including LVM3-M6 on 24 December 2025, PSLV-C62 on 12 January 2026 and GSLV-F17 on 4 September 2026. As on October 2026 it showed internship slots filled until July 2026 and a careers link; no recruitment notice was seen on the home page. Sriharikota is associated with Tirupati district in the district fact sheet.
  • IISER Tirupati. Its address is Srinivasapuram, Yerpedu Mandal, Tirupati district, pin code 517619. Its website lists an advertisement numbered 24/2025 at the results stage and a careers page.
  • Central University of Andhra Pradesh, Ananthapuramu. Its address is Jnana Seema, Ananthapuramu, 515701. Its vacancy page lists contractual and temporary posts such as assistant professors, guest faculty and research assistants.
  • National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Palasamudram. The institute's website describes a campus of about 500 acres at Palasamudram. Its notices at the time of checking were faculty and empanelment circulars without dates. A postal listing places Palasamudram in Sri Sathya Sai district.
  • IIITDM Kurnool. Its address is Jagannathagattu Hill, Kurnool, 518008, and its site lists faculty, project and contract posts, though some entries are old.
  • Sri Venkateswara University and SVIMS, Tirupati. SVU ran a faculty recruitment in 2026 with an online deadline extended to 15 June 2026, now closed. SVIMS lists posts on its jobs page.
  • Yogi Vemana University, Kadapa. Its website listed faculty recruitment for May 2026 with a date extension notice.
  • APGENCO. The corporation's website lists a recruitment page with Director posts (a notification dated 21 September 2026, last date 12 October 2026) and Assistant Executive Engineer posts. The Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project at Yerraguntla in YSR Kadapa district is operated by APGENCO, according to a secondary reference, and the corporation's pages mention the project in tenders. See the power utilities post.
  • South Coast Railway. The new zone started on 1 June 2026 with headquarters at Visakhapatnam and four divisions: Guntakal, Guntur, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. The Guntakal division, in Rayalaseema, now belongs to this zone. Railway posts are recruited through the Railway Recruitment Boards.
  • TTD. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams publishes its own recruitment notifications through a recruitment portal of its own; the portal was not accessible during checking, so verify any notice there.

No central institution applies the 95:5 rule. A candidate from Rayalaseema competes nationally for faculty, scientific or technical posts, and State-level reservation roster rules do not apply, though central reservation policy does.

Local status in practice: worked examples

Article 371-D allows the President to provide for local cadres, and the Presidential Order of 15 December 2025, which superseded the 1975 order, lists 26 districts in six zones and two multi-zones. The Commission applies it through G.O.Ms.No.45 dated 20 April 2026. Our local status and reservation post covers the whole system. The rules that matter for this region follow.

In the Group-I notification, 95 percent of posts in each multi-zone or zone go to local candidates, and 5 percent are filled from a combined list of local and non-local candidates. A candidate is local to the area where he or she studied for at least four consecutive academic years before and including the Class VII year. If the candidate did not study in an institution in those years, residence counts, and where neither decides, the area of longest study within the seven years is taken. Study certificates from Class I to VII or a residence certificate from a revenue officer not below the Mandal Revenue Officer are needed. Candidates who migrated from Telangana between 2 June 2014 and 1 June 2024 need a Local Status Certificate in the prescribed form.

Worked example 1. Sunitha studied Classes I to VII in Madanapalle. Madanapalle is in Annamayya district, so she is local to Annamayya for district posts, to Zone V for zonal posts and to Multi-Zone II for Group-I posts. If she moves to Tirupati for college, her local status does not change.

Worked example 2. Imran studied Classes I to IV in Puttaparthi and Classes V to VII in Hindupur. Both are in Sri Sathya Sai district. He is local to Sri Sathya Sai, Zone VI and Multi-Zone II. His four-year period is satisfied entirely within the district.

Worked example 3. Venkat studied Classes I to V in Chittoor and Classes VI and VII in Tirupati. The four consecutive years up to Class VII are Classes IV to VII, and they are split between Chittoor and Tirupati. Both are in Zone V, so for a zonal post he is local to Zone V, but for a district-cadre post the rule of the notification decides his district. This is why the certificate for every school year matters.

Worked example 4. Padma studied Classes I to VII in Kurnool town. She is local to Kurnool, Zone VI and Multi-Zone II. A Zone V candidate, from Tirupati for example, is a non-local candidate for Zone VI zonal posts, and competes only in the 5 percent combined list.

Worked example 5. Nagaraju studied in Rajampet before the December 2025 change. Rajampet is reported to have moved from Annamayya to YSR Kadapa. For the zone it makes no difference, since both are in Zone V; for a district-cadre post he should follow the district named in the notification and carry certificates showing the school and mandal.

Exempt posts, such as State-level and Secretariat posts as reported, do not use this rule. The notification for your post says which rule applies.

Examination centres

The Group-I notification lists all 26 district centres for the screening test. Within Rayalaseema these are Chittoor, Tirupati, Annamayya, Y.S.R. Kadapa, Sri Sathya Sai, Ananthapuramu, Nandyal and Kurnool. The Mains centres are four, including two in Rayalaseema: Tirupati and Ananthapuramu. The Horticulture Officer notification schedules its computer-based test at the same four centres, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Ananthapuramu. The 2025 Mega DSC notification said the computer-based test would be held in district headquarters, municipalities, revenue divisions and mandals.

Three practical points follow. First, the Commission may allot any centre, so make three realistic preferences based on road and rail links and not on the name of a town. Second, a Kadapa or Kurnool candidate who chooses Ananthapuramu or Tirupati for the Mains should plan travel and stay in advance. Third, for DSC and police tests, check the allotment letter, since some candidates are placed outside their first choice district.

Institutions that shape study in the region

The region has long-established public universities and new national institutes. Sri Venkateswara University, Yogi Vemana University and the Central University of Andhra Pradesh are named above because their own sites were opened. Sri Krishnadevaraya University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur at Ananthapuramu, and Rayalaseema University at Kurnool, are widely known, but their sites returned little content during checking. A graduate from any of them can use the university library for static preparation.

The region also supplies a rich set of examination anchors. Tirumala and Sriharikota are linked with Tirupati district, Lepakshi, Penukonda and Puttaparthi with Sri Sathya Sai, Gandikota and Kadapa stone with YSR Kadapa, Srisailam and Mahanandi with Nandyal, groundnut and drought-prone farming with Ananthapuramu, and Madanapalle's handloom silk and wooden toys with Annamayya, as the district fact sheet records. See the tourism and heritage notes, the agriculture notes, the minerals and industries notes and the science and technology institutions post.

A preparation approach for a Rayalaseema candidate

  1. Map your local pool. From your certificates, write the district for each year from Class I to VII, then your zone (V or VI) and the multi-zone (II). This tells you which notices matter.
  2. Choose posts that suit your pool. A zonal post in Zone VI may carry fewer vacancies than a multi-zonal post shared across Zones IV to VI. Read the annexure and compare.
  3. Update the OTPR early. The Commission asked for updates from 30 September 2026.
  4. Pick two anchor exams and one fallback. For example, one APPSC post, one police post and one district-level health notice where your qualification fits.
  5. Study the region as a case sheet. For each district note the headquarters, parent district, zone, one institution and one geography fact.
  6. Prepare for the weather of an exam day. Several centres are in towns where travel is long; arrive the previous day.
  7. Use timed practice. See negative marking and mock strategy and the government job without coaching post.
  8. Check official sites weekly. Open psc.ap.gov.in, slprb.ap.gov.in, cse.ap.gov.in, aphc.gov.in and your district portal; save notification PDFs.

Water and drought are recurring themes in Rayalaseema, and the rivers and dams notes and geography notes support both regional and State-level questions.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Treating Rayalaseema as one local pool. Zone V and Zone VI are separate for zonal posts.
  • Assuming a move of Rajampet or Railway Koduru changes your zone. Both are inside Zone V.
  • Using the old district names from textbooks. Anantapur and Ananthapuramu are the same district, but Sri Sathya Sai is a new one.
  • Reading the 2025 DSC tables as present-district figures.
  • Expecting a High Court bench at Kurnool because of press reports.
  • Missing short district notice windows.
  • Giving certificates in the wrong format for local status.

Key facts for exams

  • Zone V: Tirupati, Chittoor, Annamayya, YSR Kadapa. Zone VI: Nandyal, Ananthapuramu, Kurnool, Sri Sathya Sai. Both are in Multi-Zone II.
  • Sri Sathya Sai district was formed on 4 April 2022; its headquarters is Puttaparthi.
  • Annamayya's headquarters is Madanapalle after the December 2025 round.
  • The Presidential Order of 15 December 2025 reserves 95 percent of local-cadre posts for local candidates.
  • Group-I Mains centres in Rayalaseema: Tirupati and Ananthapuramu. Screening test on 24 January 2027.
  • Mega DSC 2025: Notification 01 of 20 April 2025; Kurnool's old-district row had the most posts.
  • The APPSC computer-based test for university Assistant Professors and RGUKT Lecturers runs from 1 to 5 December 2026.
  • South Coast Railway zone includes the Guntakal division.
  • Amaravati is named capital by the Reorganisation (Amendment) Act, 2026.
  • Markapuram and Polavaram are the two districts of December 2025 and neither is in Rayalaseema.

Frequently asked questions

Is Rayalaseema one zone for local status? No. The Presidential Order, 2025 splits it between Zone V and Zone VI, both within Multi-Zone II.

I studied in Tirupati but live in Kurnool now. Which zone am I local to? Local status follows where you studied for four consecutive years up to Class VII, or resided if you did not study. If those years were in Tirupati district, you are local to Zone V.

Where can I find district-level hospital vacancies? On your district portal under Notices and Recruitment, and on the pages of neighbouring districts that share an institution.

Which Mains centre should a Kadapa candidate choose? The Group-I notification offers Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Ananthapuramu. Choose by travel time; the choice is final unless the Commission changes it.

Is there a High Court bench in Kurnool? No official source opened for this guide shows one. The High Court's address is Nelapadu, Amaravati.
