Government Jobs in the Godavari Region: East, West, Kakinada, Konaseema, Eluru and Polavaram

The Godavari delta is the part of Andhra Pradesh where readers are most likely to be confused by the new administrative map. Until 2022 there were two districts, East and West Godavari. Today the same area carries six names: East Godavari, Kakinada, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema, West Godavari, Eluru and, since 31 December 2025, Polavaram. A candidate who studied in Amalapuram, a candidate from Bhimavaram and one from Rampachodavaram may all say they are "from Godavari", yet the 2025 Presidential Order places them in different local units, and that decides which posts are open to them at the 95 percent local share.

This guide covers the recruiters that actually hire in the region, the way local status and zones work for candidates from here, the places where district notices appear, the examination centres used in recent notifications, the institutions in the region and a preparation plan. It is written from the notifications and portals themselves and labels everything time-sensitive with the month it was checked. Nothing here is a promise of vacancies. Where a point could not be verified, the text says so. As on October 2026: this guide draws on the APPSC Group-I notification 07/2026 dated 06.10.2026, the SLPRB notifications of 16.09.2026, the Mega DSC 2025 notification dated 20.04.2025, the district portals and careers pages named in the sources, and the SSC CHSL 2025 notice. Check the official page before acting on any date.

1. The six districts as they stand in October 2026

The Government of Andhra Pradesh formed Markapuram and Polavaram districts with effect from 31 December 2025, which took the count from 26 to 28. Polavaram was reported to have been carved out of the Alluri Sitharama Raju district, with Rampachodavaram as its headquarters, two revenue divisions (Rampachodavaram and Chinturu) and twelve mandals according to Wikipedia, which should be treated only as a cross-check. A cabinet-decision report from ETV Bharat gives the headquarters and says that there were no changes in the remaining nine districts reviewed, a group that includes Eluru and West Godavari. The district list below follows the official portals.

Four cautions are worth writing down. First, East Godavari's headquarters is Rajamahendravaram, not Kakinada, and West Godavari's is Bhimavaram, not Eluru. Eluru is a separate district. Second, the Konaseema district is officially Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema, and the SLPRB table prints the long form, so use it when you fill in a form. Third, the Polavaram portal was reachable on 7 October 2026, but its home page carried text copied from another template, including a census office reference from another state and population and area figures that do not match the new district. It is not a source for anything. Fourth, the portals are not synchronised: some show 2011 census numbers and some show mandal counts from the 2022 reorganisation, so treat the table as a display and not as a statistic. For a village-level question, the Gazette and the revenue department are the authority. The ETV Bharat report also says that the village of Penugonda in West Godavari district was to be renamed Vasavi Penugonda, a detail an examiner might use.

2. The four layers of recruiters

Before reading any notification, sort the recruiter into one of four layers. The layer decides who sets the rules and whether the local reservation applies.

The Godavari region is rich in the second and third layers because it has a large population and a dense network of district offices, and it is weaker than Visakhapatnam in the fourth layer, though ONGC, ICAR and the NIT are real central employers with their own rules. Plan the year around your qualification and local status, and treat a central notice as an extra option.

3. APPSC: what the Group-I notification means for the Godavari districts

The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission is the main route to gazetted state posts. Its recruitment list shows notifications dated 15.09.2026 and 06.10.2026. The most prominent is Notification 07/2026 dated 06.10.2026 for Group-I Services, with applications from 06.10.2026 to 27.10.2026 up to 11:59 pm at psc.ap.gov.in. The vacancy table lists 166 posts across thirteen post codes, from Deputy Collectors and Assistant Commissioners of State Tax to Deputy Superintendents of Police, District Educational Officers, Regional Transport Officers, Deputy Registrars, Municipal Commissioners Grade-II and Divisional Development Officers.

The structural point for the Godavari districts is how the units are drawn. The notification groups the post codes 01 to 03, 05 to 11 and 13 into Multi-Zone-I (Zones I to III) and Multi-Zone-II (Zones IV to VI). All six Godavari districts fall in Multi-Zone-I, but they do not fall in the same zone, because the zone table splits the region: Alluri Sitarama Raju, East Godavari, Kakinada and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema are in Zone II, while West Godavari and Eluru are in Zone III along with NTR and Krishna. For the multi-zone posts, which include most of the Group-I list, this split does not matter, because the 95 percent local share goes to local candidates of the whole multi-zone. It matters for zonal posts, for example the post code that the notification organises as a zonal cadre, where each zone has its own vacancies and its own roster. Annexure-I prints a small open line and a larger local line for each multi-zone, so read the Multi-Zone-I line against your community.

The notification's centre list covers the screening test. The printed list has 26 district centres, and the Godavari entries are Kakinada, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari and Eluru. Alluri Sita Rama Raju is in the list too, and Polavaram and Markapuram do not appear in the printed list, although the notification says the test will be held in all district centres including newly organised districts. Candidates give three preferences and the Commission may allot any centre. The Main written examination is held at four centres only: Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Ananthapuramu. There is no Mains centre in the Godavari districts, so candidates from here usually choose Visakhapatnam or Vijayawada, and the choice is final under the notification subject to the Commission's right to reallot.

The same recruitment list shows other notifications that matter in the Godavari districts: forest posts (Forest Range Officer, Forest Section Officer, Forest Beat Officer and Draughtsman Grade-II), welfare posts (Assistant Director in Tribal Welfare, Assistant Social Welfare Officer and Assistant Tribal Welfare Officer, Hostel Welfare Officer Grade-II), pollution control posts, the Executive Officer Grade-III in the endowments service, the economics and statistics posts, factories, forensic science and the legislature reporters. The Godavari region has a hill and forest belt along the Eastern Ghats and a large number of temples, so forest and endowments cadres are relevant to it. The list shows each notification's date, not its closing date, so open each PDF for the last date. 4. Police, fire and prisons: the SLPRB notifications of September 2026

The State Level Police Recruitment Board issued notifications dated 16.09.2026 and one dated 17.09.2026. On 7 October 2026 the Board's recruitment page listed them with the column for the Stage 1 application period left blank, and the notifications say that the dates will be announced separately by press release. So the posts are announced and the window had not opened on the day of checking. Watch slprb.ap.gov.in and its press page.

The district-wise table in Rc.91/SLPRB/Rect.2/2026 gives the numbers for the Godavari districts. They are direct recruitment (DR) figures, with limited recruitment backlog (LR) figures in brackets; the backlog is filled only by local candidates of the respective revenue district. The notification labels all vacancies provisional and subject to change without notice.

Adding the five rows gives 72 direct recruitment Civil Constable vacancies, 26 AR vacancies and 38 Fireman vacancies, with 10 backlog Civil Constable vacancies, all from East Godavari, Kakinada and Eluru. The notification prints East Godavari as "East Godavari (RJY)", so use that spelling pattern when matching your application to the table. Polavaram has no row in the table. The Warder posts use contiguous district cadres: CDC-II consists of Alluri Sitarama Raju, East Godavari, Kakinada and Konaseema, with 28 vacancies for men and 3 for women, and CDC-III consists of West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna and NTR, with 18 for men and 4 for women, according to the same notification.

For Sub Inspectors, notification Rc.81 uses zones. The Civil SI figure is 39 for Zone II and 39 for Zone III, and the Reserve SI (AR) figure is 11 for Zone II and 10 for Zone III. The SPF Sub Inspector posts are in a contiguous zonal cadre with four posts in Zone II. A West Godavari candidate competes in Zone III and an East Godavari candidate in Zone II, so the same zone number does not cover the whole region. Two special provisions bear on the Godavari hills. The Constable notification says that 75 percent of the direct recruitment vacancies in scheduled areas for Civil Constables (men) are filled with Scheduled Tribe candidates domiciled in the Scheduled Areas of Vizianagaram, Anakapalli, Polavaram, Alluri Sitharamaraju, Eluru and Parvathipuram Manyam districts. Eluru and Polavaram are the Godavari-side districts on that list. The Sub Inspector notification gives relaxed physical standards to Aboriginal Scheduled Tribe candidates of the agency areas of the same districts: for men, a height of not less than 160 centimetres and a chest of 80 centimetres with 3 centimetres expansion, against the general 167.6 centimetres and 86.3 centimetres with 5 centimetres expansion, and for women 150 centimetres and 38 kilograms against 152.5 centimetres and 40 kilograms. East Godavari, Kakinada, Konaseema and West Godavari are not on that list. The notification also lists a residence certificate in the agency area among the documents for the claim.

A local news item is worth a mention with care. Our October current-affairs post reports that in September 2026 the Cabinet approved four new police commissionerates, including one at Rajamahendravaram. That is reported news, I did not open the order, and it does not change the SLPRB tables above.

5. Teachers: reading the Mega DSC 2025 tables for the Godavari districts

Teacher recruitment is the largest single employer category in the region. The Mega DSC 2025 notification dated 20.04.2025 lists vacancies district by district, using thirteen district names from the structure before 2022. That means that in those tables the East Godavari row includes the area now in Kakinada and Konaseema (and the Rampachodavaram area that has since passed to Polavaram), and the West Godavari row includes the area now in Eluru. The figures were as follows.

The juvenile welfare table lists Eluru with six SGT posts and one PET post, one of the few places where a present-day district name appears in the notification. East Godavari's Government, ZP and MP figure of 1,033 is among the larger ones in the table, behind Kurnool (2,547), Chittoor (1,312) and Krishna (1,095). Within East Godavari, the 258 SGT posts and 210 PE posts show the subject mix. Fee, age and application dates were the same as for the other districts: Rs. 750 per post, an upper age limit of 44 years as on 1 July 2024 with relaxation to 49 years for SC, ST, BC and EWS and 54 years for persons with benchmark disabilities, and applications from 20.04.2025 to 15.05.2025.

As on October 2026, our DSC guide reports that no DSC 2026 notification was found on the official portals and that press reports expected one in mid-October without an official date. The portal loads by script, so confirm it yourself. Under the Presidential Order 2025, as summarised in our guide, teacher posts in the school education subordinate service are district cadres, so a future notification might use the present district names, which would put the Godavari candidates into six district units instead of two. That is an inference from the order, not a statement from a DSC notification, so wait for the next bulletin before assuming. 6. District-level notifications and health posts

The district portals are where small, frequent recruitments appear. On 7 October 2026 the Recruitment pages showed the following. The Kakinada portal listed a notification for ASHA recruitment for 2026-27 under the District Health Society, with a start date of 01.10.2026 and an end date of 10.10.2026. The Kakinada and East Godavari portals both listed a notification dated 07.10.2026 to 14.10.2026 for admission to two-year allied and health care diploma courses at the government medical college, Rajamahendravaram, for 2026-27. That is an admission notice, not a job notice, and the same document is circulated to several districts. The Konaseema, West Godavari, Eluru and Polavaram recruitment categories said that no notice matched. The West Godavari portal also carries older pages, including a Grama Ward Sachivalayam vacancy list for the erstwhile district and transfer vacancy particulars from 2023, which show the portal's habit of storing historical lists beside current ones.

Three working habits help. Check both the Recruitment category and the Documents or Announcements categories, because some districts file a notice in the wrong place. Read the area of the post, since many district engagements are limited to the revenue division, the mandal or the urban health centre. And do not trust a forwarded image: find the PDF on the portal. For doctors and nurses, the notification says whether a state board or the district selection committee is the recruiter, and I did not open the medical recruitment board's own site.

7. Local status, zones and the Godavari split

Local status comes from Article 371-D of the Constitution. Under the Presidential Order of 15.12.2025, republished by the State as G.O.Ms.No.45 dated 20.04.2026, direct recruitment to district, zonal and multi-zonal cadres reserves 95 percent of the posts for local candidates, and the remaining 5 percent are filled on open merit among local and non-local candidates together. The SLPRB notification cites G.O.Ms.No.172 of 02.09.2026 for the 5 and 95 split. This replaced the 70:30 arrangement of the 1975 order. The zone map as printed in the APPSC and SLPRB notifications is this, and the two agree.

What follows for candidates is practical. A candidate from Kakinada is in Zone II, so for a zonal cadre such as the SI post she competes with East Godavari, Konaseema and hill district candidates. A candidate from Eluru is in Zone III and competes with West Godavari, NTR and Krishna. Both are in Multi-Zone-I for posts like Deputy Collector. For a district cadre such as a Constable, the unit is the district itself, so a Kakinada candidate is local only to the Kakinada row and a non-local elsewhere. Because the table has no Polavaram row, a candidate from Rampachodavaram, Chintur or the other mandals of the new district should read the certificate instructions and zone list in each notification. The mandals were reported to be carved from Alluri Sitharama Raju district, which sits in Zone II, but none of the documents opened states Polavaram's zone, and a reported Finance Department order of 6 July 2026 is said to have temporarily permitted allocation of posts to Polavaram and Markapuram while the restructuring continues. A decision on the cadre and zone of the new district is for the Government's notification, and I could not verify one.

The proof is paperwork. The notifications ask for study certificates from Class I to Class VII issued by recognised schools, or a residence certificate from the Tahsildar of the Mandal for any period not spent in a recognised school, and a single certificate is enough to apply as local. If a candidate resided in more than one mandal within the same district, separate certificates from the mandal revenue officers are required. A study certificate is mandatory for anyone who studied in an institution, and a residence certificate is not accepted from such a person. Candidates who migrated from Telangana within ten years of 2 June 2014 are treated as local at the place of residence under the central order cited in the notification, with a certificate as the Government's instructions specify.

Here is a worked example. Ravi studied Classes I to VII in Amalapuram and now works in Hyderabad. For a Constable post in the Konaseema row he is local, because the study district decides. For an SI post in Zone II he is local to the zone. He is a non-local for a Constable post in West Godavari, and competes only in the 5 percent open share there. Lakshmi studied in Bhimavaram and wants an SI post. Zone III is her zone, and she is not local to Zone II, even though Bhimavaram is a few hours from Kakinada. These examples show how the units nest and are not legal advice; the definition in each notification governs.

8. Central and public-sector employers in and near the region

The Godavari region has fewer large central establishments than Visakhapatnam, but several matter for specific qualifications. They recruit under their own rules and give no AP local reservation.

ONGC. ONGC's website lists the Rajahmundry Asset with its headquarters at Godavari Bhavan, Base Complex, Rajahmundry, East Godavari district, and says the company has operations at regional bases in Rajahmundry and Kakinada engaged in exploration and production in Andhra Pradesh. The asset also manages the Krishna Godavari and Pranahita Godavari basin. ONGC recruits executives and non-executives through its own notices on its site, usually advertised for the company as a whole, and apprentices under the Apprentices Act. I did not open its careers page, so check it directly.

ICAR institutes. The ICAR-Central Tobacco Research Institute at Rajahmundry was established in 1947 and has been rechristened as ICAR-NIRCA, the National Institute for Research on Commercial Agriculture. The ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research is at Pedavegi, in what is now Eluru district. They advertise scientific, technical and administrative posts on their own sites and through ICAR channels; the opened pages did not show current notices.

NIT and universities. NIT Andhra Pradesh at Tadepalligudem in West Godavari (society registered 20 August 2015, as in our science and technology post) is a centrally funded institute with its own faculty and staff notices. Adikavi Nannaya University at Rajahmundry, JNTU Kakinada and Dr. YSR Horticultural University at Venkataramannagudem in West Godavari are state universities; I did not open their pages, so confirm locations and notices on each site.

Ports and industry. Kakinada Deep Water Port was commissioned by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in November 1997 and has been operated by Kakinada Seaports Limited since privatisation in 1999, according to the company's site. Because the operator is a private company, port jobs here are not government vacancies. The Kakinada SEZ and the Sarpavaram IT SEZ are described in our minerals and industries notes.

Railways. The South Coast Railway zone began operating on 1 June 2026 with headquarters at Visakhapatnam. The zone's site lists Rajahmundry among the public-information items under its Vijayawada division menu. Group C and D railway posts are filled through the Railway Recruitment Boards, so station location gives no local advantage; I did not open an RRB site.

SSC, banks and others. The Staff Selection Commission's CHSL 2025 notice dated 23.06.2025 lists Southern Region centres in Andhra Pradesh including Kakinada, Rajahmundry and Eluru, together with Vijayawada, so a Godavari candidate can usually sit a central exam within the region. Public sector banks and the regional rural bank recruit through a national process with state-wise vacancy lists; I did not verify the 2026 lists.

Polavaram project. The Polavaram irrigation project is a national project on the Godavari; the project, the village and the district share a name and an examiner may test the difference. Posts connected with irrigation, such as Assistant Engineers and Assistant Executive Engineers in the State's engineering services, come through the Commission; see AEE (Civil) and AE (Electrical and Mechanical).

The SLPRB figures come from its press note of 24.04.2025. Kakinada was the only Godavari-region centre in the list for the final written test. The 2026 SLPRB notifications, in the text I read, do not name written test centres, and say the venue, date and time of the physical tests will be on the intimation letter. For a candidate in Konaseema or West Godavari, a centre like Kakinada or Vijayawada can mean an overnight stay, so plan transport and a room early once the call letter appears.

10. Institutions and universities

Examiners and employers both care about institutions. The ones that matter in this region are NIT Andhra Pradesh at Tadepalligudem, the ICAR institutes at Rajahmundry and Pedavegi, ONGC's Rajahmundry Asset and the state universities named above. The government medical college at Rajamahendravaram, which is named in the October 2026 admission notice, and the district hospitals are state institutions whose posts are advertised through the Health Department or district notices. I have not verified the recruitment pages of the universities and colleges, so keep a short list of these sites and check them monthly.

If a notice is not on the page in the right-hand column, it is not an official notice yet. Do not treat an image forwarded in a group as an announcement.

12. Preparation approach for the Godavari districts

Step 1: pick a layer. A graduate who wants a gazetted post plans around the Commission. A candidate aged 18 to 25 who is fit plans for Constable, Fireman or Warder. A B.Ed and TET holder plans around the DSC. A diploma or ITI holder looks at apprenticeships and central establishments. The common core of General Studies, Mental Ability and AP GK is shared, but the question style differs.

Step 2: certificates before the notification. Collect study certificates for Classes I to VII, community and EWS or non-creamy layer certificates in the notified format, a residence certificate where there is a gap, and an OTPR profile for the Commission. If you moved between Kakinada and East Godavari or between Eluru and West Godavari since 2022, check which district your school is now in, because the zone follows the present district, and keep the school's current mandal and district in your file.

Step 3: use the delta as syllabus. The Godavari region gives free material for AP GK. The river and its barrage at Dowleswaram, the delta canals, paddy, coconut, aquaculture and the Kolleru lake, the Papikondalu hill stretch, the Polavaram project, the ports at Kakinada, the oil and gas of the Krishna-Godavari basin, the temples at Draksharamam, Antarvedi and Annavaram, the Telugu literary heritage of Rajamahendravaram and the freedom movement, are tested in AP papers. Read them in the state notes, not in travel blogs: rivers and projects, geography, tourism and heritage, literature and agriculture. Make one page per district: headquarters, one river or canal, one crop or industry, one heritage site and one fact about the 2022 or 2025 reorganisation.

Step 4: physical preparation. The previous Constable cycle ran PMT and PET at district headquarters over about five weeks. Start running and jump practice months ahead and read the PMT and PET guide.

Step 5: a twelve-week rhythm. Weeks 1 to 4: static GS, AP history and geography, and daily mental ability practice. Weeks 5 to 8: polity, economy, science and twelve months of current affairs, with a weekly sectional test. Weeks 9 to 11: full-length timed tests and an error log. Step 6: centres. Where you can give preferences, choose the centre with the best road or rail link, not the nearest dot on a map. Kakinada and Rajahmundry are well connected; delta villages in Konaseema or the hill mandals may need a day of travel.

13. Exam traps in this topic

• Putting East and West Godavari in the same zone. East Godavari is in Zone II and West Godavari in Zone III.
• Treating Eluru as West Godavari's headquarters. The headquarters is Bhimavaram; Eluru is a district.

• Headquarters: Rajamahendravaram, Kakinada, Amalapuram, Bhimavaram, Eluru and Rampachodavaram.

Frequently asked questions

Are East Godavari and West Godavari in the same zone? No. East Godavari is in Zone II and West Godavari is in Zone III. Both are in Multi-Zone-I.

Which zone does Polavaram district belong to? The notifications read for this guide do not print Polavaram as a separate row. Read the notification you are applying to.

Do ONGC or the NIT give a local advantage? No. The 95:5 rule applies to State cadres under the Presidential Order. Central institutions follow their own rules.

Is the Kakinada diploma admission notice a job? No. It is an admission notice for allied health diploma courses, dated 07.10.2026 to 14.10.2026 on the district portals.

Has the DSC 2026 notification been issued? Our DSC guide found none on the official portals as on October 2026. Check cse.ap.gov.in and the TET and DSC portal.

Where should I look for ASHA and anganwadi posts? On your district portal under Recruitment, Notices and Documents. Read the last date and the area of the post.

Is there a Group-I Mains centre in the Godavari region? No. The four centres are Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Ananthapuramu.

Are the numbers in this guide final? No. Vacancy figures are provisional in the notifications. Confirm on the official site before relying on a single-vacancy post.
