Hostel Welfare Officers run the government welfare hostels for SC, ST and BC students: admissions, mess, discipline, study hours and the monthly returns to the district officer. It is a posting in a hostel, often in a mandal town, with the teaching-adjacent routine that B.Ed. holders know.
How to apply
Register once on OTPR at psc.ap.gov.in (see the OTPR registration guide), then submit the online application by 29 October 2026. Both detailed notifications are out; read the department-wise posts, the fee and the local-cadre table before you pay, because hostel posts are district-cadre posts.
Read the official notification first. Facts that change with each notification (posts, dates, fee, age) are taken only from it.
Exam pattern (Hostel Welfare Officer, as notified)
Single-level online test (CBRT), no screening test. Paper I General Studies and Mental Ability (150 questions, 150 marks, 150 minutes); Paper II Education (150 questions, 150 marks, 150 minutes); 300 marks in all. One-third negative marking. A qualifying Computer Proficiency Test follows. The Assistant Welfare Officer scheme is in its own detailed notification; the General Studies paper is common.
Prepare with Pareeksha
Paper II (Education) is the B.Ed. syllabus: philosophy and sociology of education, educational psychology, curriculum, evaluation, educational administration and the Indian education commissions. The APPSC Hostel Welfare Officer guide has the pattern and syllabus; for the pedagogy part use the DSC psychology and pedagogy guide. For Paper I, use fixed-paper General Studies mocks where every candidate sits the same paper and the percentile is real. Start from the Andhra Pradesh exam list.
