Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram is a key Godavari delta diversion structure near Rajamahendravaram. Its canals support eastern and western delta irrigation. The official Kakinada water-resources page describes the Godavari Delta System and Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in the present administration. The name can also appear as Dowlaiswaram in older spellings.
The barrage does not change the Godavari into a new river. It regulates and diverts flow into canals. Contrast it with Polavaram farther upstream and with Prakasam Barrage on the different Krishna basin.
Worked example: Dowleswaram is a Godavari delta barrage associated with distribution into canal systems. In a multiple-choice question, contrast its diversion role with Polavaram's large multipurpose project role. A barrage can influence upstream water level without being labelled a large seasonal reservoir. The name Rajamahendravaram helps locate the area, but the river and function are the two facts that decide the answer.
Active recall: Locate the named river or project on the relevant map, name its function, and state which facts need a dated source.
