AP Rivers, Dams and Irrigation Projects · Chapter 2
01 | Start with basin, site, function and date

The fastest AP irrigation recall card has four fields. Basin identifies the river system; site locates the headwork or reservoir; function distinguishes storage, diversion, lift or canal delivery; date prevents an old completion target becoming a present fact. APWRIMS separates Godavari, Krishna, Pennar and other basins in its dated reservoir tables. The project map is a spatial index, not a substitute for the water-resources department record.

Compare a barrage on a delta river with a reservoir in a gorge. Both regulate water, but the stored volume, release rule and command system differ. A district can change after reorganisation while the river and physical project site stay put.

Worked example: A question names a water project and asks for its river. First locate its basin on the map; then identify whether the named object is a dam, barrage, canal or lift. Polavaram belongs to the Godavari system, while Prakasam Barrage is on the Krishna. A project name by itself does not establish present storage or completion. For changing claims, add the bulletin date and issuing department before marking an answer.

Active recall: Locate the named river or project on the relevant map, name its function, and state which facts need a dated source.
