24 | Kandaleru reservoir

Kandaleru is a major reservoir in the southern AP water-transfer network, associated with the Telugu Ganga project and drinking-water supply toward Chennai as well as irrigation. The Nellore district tourism and water-resources pages locate it and describe a link from Somasila. APWRIMS lists it in the Pennar basin view.

A reservoir may be filled by a canal carrying transferred water rather than only by its local catchment. For a route question, write each intermediate storage and canal segment rather than jumping from Srisailam directly to Chennai.

Worked example: Kandaleru reservoir is connected to the Telugu Ganga network and has a different location and function from Somasila. A candidate may remember both names but not their order, so draw two labelled nodes and the connecting route. A project can carry water across watershed lines; a reservoir's local catchment is not always the whole source story. Ask whether the exam wants site, source path or delivered supply.

Active recall: Locate the named river or project on the relevant map, name its function, and state which facts need a dated source.

Penna and southern reservoirs

Somasila and Kandaleru are distinct reservoirs in the south-water route.

Keep Somasila and Kandaleru as separate southern reservoirs. The connecting water route does not erase the distinction between a reservoir's local basin and transfer source.

District geometry: APSDMA. River layer: APSAC. Project and status details: credited water-resource agencies.
