The Godavari basin links upland tributaries, the Polavaram-side gorge or valley, the Rajamahendravaram reach and a broad distributary delta. A basin extends beyond a single state, and a river reach can lie near several current districts. The river map traces its AP course; the project map identifies Polavaram upstream of Dowleswaram.
Read the system from upstream to downstream. A national project on the middle-lower river has a different purpose and governance record from the historic delta barrage. Do not confuse new Polavaram district with the physical project.
Worked example: A Godavari question may say the river enters Andhra Pradesh and then lists Polavaram, Dowleswaram and delta canals. Read this as an upstream-to-downstream sequence, not three names for the same structure. Polavaram is upstream of the delta barrage, while Dowleswaram divides and diverts water in the delta region. A district border can move, but this river order remains the useful exam anchor.
Active recall: Locate the named river or project on the relevant map, name its function, and state which facts need a dated source.
