AP Rivers, Dams and Irrigation Projects · Chapter 17
16 | Nagarjuna Sagar

Nagarjuna Sagar is a major Krishna storage and irrigation project downstream of Srisailam. APWRIMS associates its AP record with Palnadu. The dam and its canal systems are larger than a single current district; command and benefit areas can extend beyond the project point. A candidate should pair it with Krishna and place it before Pulichintala.

The project name and nearby Nagarjunakonda heritage site are related geographically but answer different questions. A storage percentage in a live table is dated; the river-project pair is stable.

Worked example: Nagarjuna Sagar sits downstream from Srisailam in the Krishna system. If an MCQ places it on the Godavari, the river-chain map eliminates that option immediately. The dam, reservoir and canals serve different purposes in an explanation; do not use the word 'project' to hide that distinction. Cross-border basin management also means an AP-only district map is insufficient to describe its entire hydrological setting.

Active recall: Locate the named river or project on the relevant map, name its function, and state which facts need a dated source.
