20 | Handri Neeva lift scheme

The Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project is a large lift-and-canal scheme associated with drawing water from the Srisailam reservoir side for dry Rayalaseema areas. The official Kurnool district HNSS page describes a foreshore intake and long main canal. Its route includes pumping and intermediate storage, so it cannot be sketched as simple gravity flow all the way to the destination.

Learn source reservoir, basin and scheme type. A statement that water has reached one reach does not prove every branch has achieved its design irrigation potential.

Worked example: Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi is a lift scheme linked to water movement into dry Rayalaseema areas. The key concept is elevation: water is pumped across stretches that cannot be served solely by gravity. A candidate may confuse its name with a river or reservoir. Classify it as a project route first, then locate its source-side and destination-side geography. Check current operational phase before quoting a delivery figure.

Active recall: Locate the named river or project on the relevant map, name its function, and state which facts need a dated source.
