37 | Delta canals and crop seasons

Godavari and Krishna delta canal networks support farming across administrative districts. Kharif and Rabi delivery can differ with monsoon inflow, reservoir operation and crop demand. The Kakinada water-resources page notes that a barrage designed for one seasonal pattern has been managed for additional seasonal cropping.

Do not assume a physical canal guarantees water every day or every season. To answer a current supply question, use the water-resources bulletin or canal schedule with a date.

Worked example: A delta canal can support paddy in a season, but cropping area responds to rainfall, release timing and farmers' choices. Kharif and rabi are seasons, not names of canals. If an MCQ asks which region is associated with a delta system, use the Godavari or Krishna coast. If it asks actual irrigated hectares, use the season's official return and ensure its boundary vintage matches the district names.

Active recall: Locate the named river or project on the relevant map, name its function, and state which facts need a dated source.
