AP Rivers, Dams and Irrigation Projects · Chapter 5
04 | Gotta barrage

The Gotta or Boddepalli Rajagopala Rao project is listed with Vamsadhara in AP disaster-management reservoir/barrage records. On the map it belongs to the Srikakulam-side north-eastern river corridor. Its location is a project point, not a county-sized reservoir polygon. Learn Vamsadhara-Gotta as one pair and contrast Nagavali-Thotapalli as the neighbouring pair.

Water level and gate-release data can change hourly. When an exam asks a live flood question, consult the current APWRIMS or APSDMA bulletin rather than a static capacity or seasonal figure copied from notes.

Worked example: A barrage question offers Gotta, Thotapalli, Dowleswaram and Prakasam. Gotta is the Vamsadhara choice. Eliminate the others by identifying their rivers: Nagavali, Godavari and Krishna respectively. A barrage raises water level for diversion; it should not be described as a large storage reservoir merely because a map uses the same dam symbol for several structures. Read the legend and the physical function.

Active recall: Locate the named river or project on the relevant map, name its function, and state which facts need a dated source.
